Fernco, located in Barnsley, is seeking a Design Technician to join our Company. A full-time, office-based role, working 39 hours per week: 08.30 – 17.00 (Mon-Thurs) & 08.30 – 16.00 (Fri), flexibility is essential to meet business needs.

The successful individual will work within the R&D team to help develop new and existing products, improve manufacturing processes, and provide technical assistance across the business.

Design Technician Responsibilities:

  • Support new development projects from conception and justification through to design, implementation and ROI calculations.
  • Assist with daily technical enquiries and project specifications.
  • Discuss with suppliers the manufacturing options, material selection and subsequent quotations for new developments.
  • Generation and maintenance of project and technical documentation.
  • Support Marketing and Sales with new product launches.
  • Product prototyping and feasibility studies.
  • Market research.
  • Physical product testing, analysing and reporting to the required standards.
  • Create BOM’s, product codes, EAN codes and technical information.

The Ideal Design Technician:

Essential:

  • Experience of 2.5/3axis CNC programming
  • Proficient in SolidWorks
  • IT efficacy – Windows, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive/SharePoint, Office Suite
  • Hands-on experience
  • Interest in engineering, construction and design principles
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy

Beneficial:

  • BEng / MEng within a similar engineering Field (HND/HNC Minimum)
  • Suitable experience in a similar Engineering role
  • Experience of using V-Carve software
  • Project Management experience – the ability to manage multiple simultaneously
