A care home in Cambridgeshire was experiencing blocked drains within their drainage system, prompting a call to DALROD, a local emergency drainage engineer for assistance and to solve the problem. Upon investigation and clearance of the blockages, DALROD discovered rat droppings on the benching of the manholes and chambers on the property.
In response DALPEST (a pest control team) attended the site the following day. After further inspection revealed multiple rats within the care home itself, DALPEST recommended the installation of Fernco Non-return Valves (NRVs) as a proactive measure to mitigate the risk of reoccurrence. The seriousness of the situation led to the evacuation of the care home and allowing the team to take the necessary precautions to prevent future incidents.
With residents reporting hearing noises, the team returned promptly the following day and installed eight NRVs. This solution effectively barred any further
rodents from travelling up the toilet pipework or any other redundant connections, ensuring the safety and well-being of the care home residents. After the NRV installation, a flow test was carried out to confirm that the NRVs allowed for complete natural flow of foul water and debris such as toilet roll.
Reflecting on the success of the project, Josh from DALROD said “Overall, this was a very successful job. I was able to receive the necessary products within just 18 hours of notice, delivered right to our doorstep. This was stress free and simple, allowing me and DALPEST to complete this time sensitive job for this important customer.”
