Objective:
To prevent the property from future flooding after their drains backed up.

Solution:
Go-Flow Drainage installed Fernco Backwater Valves into the properties’ drainage system.

After experiencing heavy downpours, KFC in Brighton faced severe flooding, leading to backflow issues within the properties drainage system, particularly affecting their kitchen area. Given the importance of maintaining hygiene standards in a food preparation environment, KFC urgently needed a quick and easy solution.

Go-Flow Drainage were called to the sites for assistance, to clear the blockage and to prevent any future backflow incidents. After a thorough assessment, they recommended the installation of Fernco Backwater Valves (BWVs), a solution happily accepted by KFC.

Installation occurred over a span of three days, from the 16th to the 18th of April, with a dedicated two-person team overseeing the process. The root of the problem was found to be a blockage in an internal chamber with an old Victorian interceptor system that was defective in allowing proper flow and was prone to
blocking. Upon clearing the obstruction, Go-Flow Drainage proceeded to install the Fernco Backwater Valve in place of the interceptor trap in the chamber. To ensure a secure and reliable connection, two patch liners were placed at either end of the valve.

Additionally, a second BWV was installed in another existing pipeline using Fernco couplings, and firmly set in place with concrete. The top of the valve was left
available for any future maintenance that may be required.

The customer was extremely pleased and satisfied with the effectiveness of the BWVs, noting their success in preventing future flooding and hygiene concerns.
Moreover, the installation of BWVs provided assurance to the owner that they would no longer contend with unwanted pests travelling through the pipe systems, safeguarding both the property and the business.
