Perren & Penny are a preferred contractor to Unitywater and were engaged to install a new house connection into an existing live sewer main.
The existing pipe material was unknown as it was installed 20+ years ago.
Where the connection was to be made was in a public area near schools and a residential housing estate. This meant that the works had to be completed in minimal time to avoid disruption to the public and the sewer main.

As the Icon couplings were approved on the SEQ IPAM list, the IC150P was the ideal fitting to be used for the following reasons:-
• The existing pipe was unknown besides being 150mm ID. The Icon coupling allowed for pipes with ID’s from 148mm to 153mm.
• The Icon coupling eliminated loss time by not having to excavate to ground to expose what sort of pipe it was, then only to reinstate so other fittings could be procured, return to site, expose and make the connection.
• Once the existing pipe was exposed, it was identified as Ultrarib”, this is a PVC pipe with molded ribs on the outside of the pipe. The Icon coupling was the perfect solution.
• The connection was made and reinstated in the same day, with no interruptions to the local residence and absolute minimal downtime on the sewer main.
