Objective:
To prevent the homeowner’s property from flooding again.

Solution:
Complete Preservation installed 2 Fernco Anti-Flood Air Bricks in place of the standard metal vents.

A homeowner in Hampshire faced a significant issue when heavy rainfall caused a nearby stream to overflow, flooding her home. The floodwater caused damp issues and became a major concern, with water even seeping up through the floorboards inside the house. Concerned about the damage, she contacted Complete Preservation, the local damp investigation specialists. Upon visiting, it was evident that this wasn’t the first time flooding has happened. The homeowner recalled a similar incident 2 years ago and that she had seen the floodwater entering through the air bricks on the back of her home. When lifting the floorboards, Complete Preservation discovered signs of wet rot, likely from previous flooding that hadn’t fully dried out. There were no serious signs of ventilation issues of the suspended
timber floor vents, and a CCTV drain survey confirmed there were no drainage defects.

After drying down the property and installing new floor joists, Complete Preservation recommended installing two Fernco Anti-Flood Air Bricks, to which the homeowner was happy to proceed with. The installation was quick and easy, and the product seamlessly integrated into the property with no issues. These air bricks feature a self-sealing valve that automatically closes when floodwater rises and reopens once the water recedes, restoring airflow. This means that if the garden floods again, no water will enter the home. Overall, the homeowner was pleased with the quick and effective solution, giving her peace of mind that her home is now better protected against future floods.
